Uganda passes revised anti-LGBTQ+- bill – BBC News

Uganda’s parliament has passed a watered down anti-homosexuality bill that originally criminalised people for simply identifying as LGBTQ+.

In the original proposed legislation, members of the public were going to have to report individuals in same-sex relationships to the authorities.

Human rights defenders were outraged, with some activists in Uganda claiming members of LGBTQ+ community were being blackmailed.

Even though the latest version of the bill was watered down, it is still one of the toughest pieces of anti-gay legislation on the continent.
